The British General spoke a lot about how important these relations are and how they try to keep the connections going. Top brass come in for all sorts of criticism, but they understand the value of inter state relations.
The military as a force for stability sounds highly dubious more than a few countries have a force for stability that can't be got rid of and answer to no one
It seems to me that they key with any institution is the nature of the people, especially the leaders. I guess a miitary led by decent people can be a bulwark against a democratic leadership that is anything but decent just as much as the reverse being the case.
I really appreciate your intel from the inside track of the military and security institutions. I’d like to read your views on the current state of the UK submarine force - and how you see its future evolving. For instance is the CASD policy sustainable in view of the delays and cost inflation with the new boats in-build?
It’s good to hear reassurances from democratic military leaders that they are committed to democracy and understand the importance of alliances and cooperation. There are a few nutters and malcontents as evidenced by former General Michael Flynn and his ilk. On the whole, I like to listen to the military leaders of the US past and present for their views on what’s happening and what can be done.
It really does come down to citizens getting off their duffs and voting responsibly. It doesn’t help when influencers like the traitor Michael Flynn use their expertise to confuse and discourage people from performing their civic duty. Being kind and respectful of others is a civic duty. Hard to do when fear and loathing is being promoted by the people at the top.
Military duty is harder when you have to be skeptical about whether orders are lawful. I am glad that we still have allies despite the current complications.
