I love that studio - recorded the Sophie from Romania audiobook there. A big contrast to recording Ruskin Park at home with a blanket over my head and a clicker to show the editor where the retakes were. But I enjoyed both experiences and it is clear audiobooks are growing in popularity and worth an author’s time..
Lovely to read an author’s perspective in their true voice. I try to persuade all I meet to record their own. Great investment if your time, Mark. Thank you !
I think audiobooks are always best when the author reads it aloud, rather than getting a generic voice actor... The passion comes through when the author is also the speaker, which I never get otherwise
This is really interesting, Mark. My preference is the opposite of the trend you describe: overall I always prefer to read books but really value non-fiction in audio form, especially if voiced by the author, probably for the reasons you give about knowledge of the text & the author’s intentions. Of course it helps when like you, the author has loads of experience in recording voice tracks.
With fiction, especially if combining e-book with audio-book, the actor’s delivery can really jar with the voices you’ve given characters in your mind while reading. Really glad you’re investing time in recording your back catalogue!

I would very much welcome a director’s cut ‘Allo Allo’ version with added asides.
LOL!
Non fiction with an arc / trajectory/ direction seems to really work. Does that apply to your books (before I get one!)
Your mention of legacy chimes with me and the desire to write. Your post is an interesting and enjoyable read.
